In the Studio

The Museum offers a wide range of classes and workshops for children and adults including instruction in all media. Some of the courses offered are: drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, stained glass, jewelry, photography and textiles. The main facility contains ten studio classrooms. Students have the opportunity to learn new skills, express themselves visually, and experience a community of creative people. These classes are an excellent, economical source for creative knowledge and information. The museum faculty, a diverse group of community artists, provides an important bridge for the museum between the display of art and the production of art.

In the Schools

School programs take many forms at the SBRMA:

Museum Morning is a highly successful program. Every fifth grade student from three school systems visits both the Regional Museum and the Snite Museum of Art on the same morning for a docent led tour. Click HERE for more information.

The Docent Program is in its sixteenth year and has fifty participating members. These community volunteers receive ongoing education related to exhibitions and art history.

Art Chunk: Concept and Culture combines looking with doing. Students receive a docent tour and then participate in a studio art activity related to the current exhibition.

A variety of programming was offered to local public school systems including teacher workshops, career counseling for students and jurying of visual art contests. Production of printed matter to support all school programs, personal visits with teachers and administrators and informational mailings keep the programs running at full capacity.

Outreach

The SBRMA is constantly busy working with groups outside our walls. Special outreach programs are designed in consultation with outside organizations and based on the unique needs of the group. Over the years the SBRMA has worked off-site and on-location with AWS, Logan Center, El Campito, La Casa de Amistad, Boys & Girls Club of St. Joseph Couty, Juvenile Justice Center, Colfax Cultural Center, City of South Bend, There Are Children Here, The Center for the Homeless, and many more. We are always looking for new groups to partner with, call Jessi Lentych at 574-235-9102 to begin your group's discovery through art! Click HERE to visit the Outreach Photo Album.
